Why This Program Works

Many runners begin their runs with muscles that are stiff, underactive, or not communicating effectively. Rather than simply raising your heart rate, this warm-up prepares the specific muscles responsible for keeping your stride efficient and your pelvis stable.

The lateral movement drills activate the gluteus medius and other hip stabilizers that control pelvic alignment during single-leg stance, which is one of the most important phases of running. Better activation of these muscles helps improve force transfer, reduce unnecessary side-to-side movement, and create a more stable foundation with every stride.

The side-lying strengthening exercises further engage the glutes while increasing hip control and stability. Finally, the banded hip mobility drills warm up the hip flexors through a full range of motion, helping promote a smoother, quicker turnover and allowing your legs to move more freely as your pace increases.

By spending just a few minutes preparing your body before you run, you'll improve movement quality, enhance running efficiency, and help reduce your risk of common overuse injuries.
